These terrariums mimic early Wardian cases perfected by Dr. Nathaniel Ward, a physician with a passion for botany. His design was most famously used in July 1833, when two of his glazed cases filled with British ferns were sent on the months-long journey to  Sydney Australia. They changed the world with the exchange of plants between continents, including rubber, bananas and  giant lily pads.
